They occur inside the mouth, that is, on the inside of the cheeks or lips, on or under the tongue, on the soft palate, or at the base of the gums. A tingling or burning sensation may also appear in the area a couple of days before the canker sores develop.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms and causes<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a number of <strong>symptoms <\/strong>that can indicate that we have or are going to have a canker sore, such as:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whitish wounds on the inside of the mouth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fever and malaise (only in severe cases).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most frequent <strong>causes<\/strong> of the appearance of canker sores are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mechanical causes, that is, from involuntary bites, from a restoration on a tooth that rubs against us, from very intense dental cleaning\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food allergies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Viral infections, caused by a pathogen other than herpes virus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hereditary factors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of some drugs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hormonal changes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deficiency of some vitamins and minerals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Canker Sore<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are several types of canker sores, including:<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minor canker sores<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are the <strong>most <\/strong>common. They are usually quite small and oval-shaped with a red border. They take between 1 and 2 weeks to heal and do not leave scars.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Greater canker sores<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are <strong>less <\/strong>common. They are larger and deeper canker sores. In most cases, they are round with well-defined edges, although sometimes, if they are very large, they can have irregular borders. They can cause very intense pain. They take up to 6 weeks to heal and may leave large scars.    <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canker sores herpetiform<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These types of canker sores are <strong>the least common<\/strong> and appear in older people, although they are not caused by any herpes virus infection. They are about the size of a pinhead, with irregular borders. They usually occur in clusters of 10 to 100 sores, but they cannot merge to form a larger ulcer. They take between one and two weeks to heal and do not leave scars.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canker sores in children<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In children, canker sores appear occasionally. They usually occur when there is a viral infection. Therefore, the <strong>recommended treatment<\/strong> should address the symptoms that appear, such as:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pain.<\/strong> Pain relievers are used to alleviate it. If the pain is mild, paracetamol or ibuprofen are prescribed, and if it is severe, metamizole is prescribed. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sores.<\/strong> A topical treatment is used to eliminate them. The treatment should be hyaluronic acid or anesthetics if the sores are more severe. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diet.<\/strong> Debe evitarse tomar alimentos duros, calientes, picantes, \u00e1cidos y salados, es decir, se recomienda dieta blanda.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vomiting or diarrhea.<\/strong>  Plenty of fluids are recommended, which provide mineral salts and sugars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to prevent canker sores<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To prevent the appearance of canker sores, you need:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have proper oral hygiene.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid the consumption of hot drinks and spicy foods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify and avoid those foods that affect us personally in the appearance of canker sores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treatment<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditionally, mouthwashes containing methylene blue, sodium bicarbonate, oral antiseptics, corticosteroids, and anti-inflammatories were used. While all are effective, they are also somewhat harsh. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, preparations containing <strong>hyaluronic acid<\/strong> are used. This substance is naturally present in the gums and has proven to be more <strong>effective <\/strong>than traditional treatments because: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It creates a protective barrier over the mucosa, thus preventing contact between the ulcer and drinks and\/or food, and in this way, the pain is neutralized.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Due to its anti-edematous action, it reduces inflammation and pain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is non-toxic and does not hurt to put on, which is an advantage to use with children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It prevents the appearance of new ulcers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It stimulates scarring and therefore natural healing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En cuanto a tratamientos caseros, el agua con sal puede ayudar en la curaci\u00f3n del afta. Tambi\u00e9n favorece la curaci\u00f3n aplicar una diluci\u00f3n a partes iguales de agua oxigenada y agua con un bastoncillo de algod\u00f3n. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to see a doctor<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is usually recommended to see a doctor when:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The size of the canker sores is too large.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Canker sores appear repeatedly, that is, when they are cured, new ones are produced immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Canker sores are permanent (after two or more weeks, they are still present).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The pain is so severe that it cannot be controlled with regular self-care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Canker sores expand toward the lips.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is very difficult to drink or eat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High fever appears.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canker sores are wounds or ulcers, round or oval in shape, with a red border and a white or yellow center.
