Orofacial Harmonization Vélez-Málaga
Correction of asymmetries and structural defects of the lower third
Orofacial harmonization, one of the specialties of dentistry, aims to restore this balance and in turn provide a new vision of beauty and satisfaction in every smile.
At Acosta Cubero Dental Clinic in Vélez-Málaga, your oral health is our top priority. We perform a comprehensive evaluation and use safe techniques to ensure this.
Facial harmonization is a novel and innovative treatment concept that aims to improve the facial balance of each person, specifically focusing on the perioral area, referring to the lower third of the face, in order to highlight the most favorable features and attenuate their defects.
Orofacial Harmonization
Soft and hard tissue treatment
Modern dentistry cannot limit itself to treating the tooth (hard tissue) while ignoring the muscular and cutaneous support (soft tissue) that covers it.
Conditions such as tooth loss, severe bruxism, or bone resorption cause the facial structure to lose its natural support. This results in lip incompetence (difficulty closing the mouth), marked asymmetries when speaking or chewing, and alterations in phonetics.
Our clinical goal is to restore the anatomical balance necessary for proper stomatognathic function.
Clinical Objectives
Recovery of stomatognathic balance
The aim of these interventions is to restore the anatomical competence necessary to ensure lip seal, protect the teeth from desiccation, and guarantee the stability of the rehabilitation.
Pathologies to be treated
Orofacial Harmonization Treatments
The use of bio-fillers is an adjunct tool in implantology, orthodontics and prosthetics treatments to complete the anatomical rehabilitation of the patient.
Lip Competence (Mouth Closure)
Patients who, due to retrognathia or lack of dental support, cannot close their lips at rest (lip incompetence), which leads to mouth breathing and dry gums.
Treatment: We provide structural support to the lip to allow for a tight and functional lip seal without muscular effort.
Correction of Facial Asymmetries
Chin deviations or noticeable volume differences between the left and right sides of the face, often caused by chewing only on one side (unilateral habit) or by uneven bone development.
Treatment: We balance muscle and dermal volumes to achieve functional symmetry that improves mandibular dynamics.
Replacement in Maxillary Atrophy (Deep Grooves)
When teeth are lost, the bone is resorbed and the face “sinks” (tissue collapse).
Treatment: We fill the lost space in the perioral area to restore the patient’s original vertical dimension, providing support for the placed prostheses or implants.
Gummy Smile (Muscle Hyperfunction)
Patients who, when smiling, expose an excessive amount of gum tissue due to a hypertonic (too strong) or short upper lip.
Treatment: We modulate muscle activity or create a physical stop to prevent the lip from rising excessively, protecting the gum from drying out.
Interdental Papillae Defects (Black Triangles)
Loss of gum tissue between the teeth creates dark spaces where food accumulates and affects speech (lisping).
Treatment: Infiltration of hyaluronic acid into the papilla to regenerate volume and close those pathological spaces (black spaces).
Vélez-Málaga
Correction, not makeup
It is essential to distinguish this treatment from cosmetic procedures. At our clinic in Vélez-Málaga, we don't aim to "increase volume" for purely aesthetic reasons. We perform tissue replacement: we restore volume where a pathology or atrophy has eliminated it. We use hyaluronic acid as a reparative biomaterial to support receding gums, stabilize a misaligned jaw, or allow a patient to properly seal their lips after oral rehabilitation.
Frequently Asked Questions Orofacial Harmonization
Everything you need to know before you take the plunge
It's perfectly normal to have questions about sensitivity, duration, or the procedure. Here we've compiled the most frequently asked questions from our patients so you can make your decision with complete confidence.
Is it a definitive treatment?
Does it replace orthognathic surgery?
Does it have medical contraindications?
It is a very safe treatment, but we will perform a complete medical history to rule out active autoimmune diseases or infections in the area to be treated that could interfere with the biomaterial.
Does the infiltration hurt?
Because it is performed in a dental setting, we use intraoral local anesthesia techniques (the same as for fillings). This ensures that the procedure is painless and precise.
