Teeth Whitening in Velez-Malaga

Bring light back to your smile with the best technology

Over time, it's natural for our smiles to lose their brightness. Consuming coffee, tea, wine, or tobacco leaves its mark, dulling the natural whiteness of our teeth and sometimes making us feel insecure when we smile.

At Acosta Cubero Dental Clinic in Vélez-Málaga, we believe a healthy smile is a bright smile. Restoring that fresh, clean look is possible without damaging your enamel. We handle the technique and medical safety so you can simply enjoy the results.

Smile, the rest is up to us.

What is Teeth Whitening?

It is one of the most conservative cosmetic dental treatments available. Contrary to popular belief, it does not "sand" or wear down the tooth.

The procedure involves applying a special gel that releases oxygen. This oxygen gently penetrates the enamel's micropores and dissolves the dark pigments that have accumulated over the years. The result is a real whitening of the shade from within, respecting the structure and hardness of your tooth.

Under the supervision of Dr. Inmaculada Acosta, we guarantee that the process is safe for your gums and fully controlled.

Understanding Your Nail Polish

Why do teeth darken?

Tooth enamel is microscopically porous, like a very hard sponge. Over the years, pigments from what we eat and drink seep into these pores.

In our clinic in Vélez-Málaga, we see the main causes of this darkening on a daily basis:

Chromogenic foods
Morning coffee, tea, red wine, red fruits, curry, or soy sauce are powerful natural dyes.
Tobacco
It's the number one enemy. Nicotine and tar don't just stain the surface, they penetrate deep inside.
Natural aging
Con la edad, el esmalte se hace más fino y deja ver más la dentina (la capa interna), que es de color amarillo natural.
Trauma or medications
Certain bumps or antibiotics (such as tetracyclines) can stain the tooth "from the inside."

What is the ideal teeth whitening for you?

At Acosta Cubero Dental Clinic, we avoid "one-size-fits-all" solutions. Not all stains are the same, nor do all patients have the same sensitivity. Therefore, after a preliminary diagnosis, we will recommend one of these three options:

It is the ideal option if you are looking for an immediate result for a special event (a wedding, a graduation…).

  • How it works: We apply a highly concentrated gel to your teeth, after first protecting your gums with a gingival barrier. We activate the gel using a Photoactivation Lamp (Cold Light) which enhances oxygen release.

  • Advantage: In a single session of about 45-60 minutes, you leave with a noticeably whiter smile.

Not to be confused with “internet kits”. Personalization is key here.

  • How it works: We 3D scan your mouth (no uncomfortable molds) to create custom-fit, clear aligners. We’ll give you a kit with professional gel (at a safe concentration for home use) and explain how to apply it for a few hours a day or at night.

  • Advantage: It is a progressive process that you control yourself, ideal for people with very sensitive teeth.

It is our star recommendation in Vélez-Málaga to obtain the whitest and longest-lasting result possible.

  • The process: We combine the power of a clinical session (to break down tough stains) with at-home maintenance using splints (to stabilize the color).

  • The result: You can lower more tones than with the techniques alone and the white lasts much longer.

Busting myths

Security and Sensitivity

Are you worried that teeth whitening will hurt or damage your teeth? It's the most frequent question we get in our practice, and we want to be completely honest with you.

Does it damage enamel?

Absolutely not. Professional teeth whitening is non-abrasive (it doesn't sand). It works through chemical oxygenation. The structure of your teeth remains intact; only their optical color changes.

Does it produce sensitivity?

You may notice a slight temporary sensitivity (to cold or air) during treatment, as the pores of the tooth are "open" being cleaned.

Gum protection

Before applying any potent product in the clinic, we place a light-cured gingival barrier that completely isolates your gums. The gel only touches the tooth.

Our Difference

At Acosta Cubero Dental Clinic in Vélez, we use gels with incorporated desensitizing agents (such as potassium nitrate and fluoride) that protect the nerve. In addition, if you are prone to sensitivity, we prepare your enamel weeks in advance with specific pastes. Any discomfort, if it occurs, is mild and disappears completely upon completion of the treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Whitening

Everything you need to know before you take the plunge

It is not permanent (nothing in dentistry is forever), but its effects can last from 1 to 3 years.

It all depends on your habits: if you smoke a lot or drink too much coffee, the color will fade faster. However, once you have your custom-made splints, you can get a “touch-up” once a year to restore the shine.

This point is crucial: The whitening gel ONLY works on natural teeth. It does not whiten porcelain or composite.

If you have visible fillings or crowns in the front section, Dr. Inmaculada Acosta will carefully plan your case: first we whiten your natural teeth and, after about 15 days (when the color stabilizes), we change those old fillings to match the new color of your smile.

During the treatment and the 48 hours after, your teeth are more receptive to spotting.

We recommend avoiding brightly colored foods (red wine, coffee, beets, tomato sauce, curry, berries, etc.). It only takes a few days to guarantee perfect results!

No. Commercial “whitening” toothpastes work by abrasion (they scrape off the surface stain), which in the long run can wear down the enamel and does not change the internal color of the tooth.

Medical whitening works chemically from within, making it more effective and safer in the long term.

In this case, conventional external whitening is usually not enough. For these cases, at Acosta Cubero we perform a specific treatment called Internal Whitening.

We apply the gel inside the tooth (in the pulp chamber) to whiten it from the core outwards. It’s the only way to match that stubborn tooth with the rest of your smile.
