Types of Dental Veneers

There are different types and variations of dental veneers, but mainly two types are clearly distinguished, which depend on the material they are made of:

Composite veneers

These types of veneers are made directly on the tooth, bonding the resin that will be shaped to the tooth’s form. The resin used is similar to that used in fillings.

These are the cheapest type of veneers available and are also the quickest and easiest to apply, although it is true that they show a lower quality compared to porcelain veneers, which are weaker and more susceptible to fractures and discoloration over time, requiring regular check-ups for proper maintenance.

Porcelain Veneers

These dental veneers are made beforehand in a laboratory and then placed on the patient’s teeth, which requires a greater amount of work.

Because of this, their price is higher than that of composite veneers, but it should be noted that the results they offer are better in terms of quality and aesthetics, as they last longer, require less frequent maintenance, and their appearance is more natural.

After comparing composite and porcelain veneers, it should be noted that their lifespan does not determine which is better, as each type has specific characteristics.

This is why, depending on each patient’s needs and circumstances, one type of veneer may be more suitable than another, regardless of the quality of each. The best course of action is to let your dentist advise you and suggest the best option for you, as they are best positioned to determine the most appropriate choice that best suits your needs.

Other Types of Dental Veneers

Componeer Veneers

This is a type of dental veneer that is not commonly used in Spain, although it is becoming increasingly available.

These are prefabricated composite veneers, very thin and available in different types, from which the dentist chooses the one they consider most suitable for the type of tooth being treated. Like regular composite veneers, these veneers can also be filed down after hardening to ensure they are completely customized to the patient.

Lumineers Veneers

These types of dental veneers are the most in demand and, therefore, used by celebrities, because they are extremely thin.

These are very thin porcelain veneers that don’t require any preparation once placed on the tooth, making the application procedure much simpler than with traditional porcelain veneers. However, this type of veneer requires a much more precise and specialized process, which explains the relatively high price.
